HAPPY HALLOWEEN - This years offering.....

This years project took a turn in a direction I hadn't really meant for it to go in, so... Instead of using the first round of prints I was planning on sending out, I'm reprinting the postcards and will send them out as I actually finish them. And at this rate it may be Thanksgiving before some of you actually get one in the mail. ( Hopefully Not )

Hope you had or are having a great Halloween.

BOOOOOORUBE - HALLOWEEN OVER THE YEARS

So this represents the images I've sent out over the past 10 years in celebration of one of my favorite holidays - HALLOWEEN.
Still searching the archives for 2000 and 2001, not sure what I did.

Enjoy, and have a great HALLOWEEN!!!!

I'll be posting this years image as soon as I finish it, aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's just one of those years. The image is printed, but I'm hand-coloring each one I send out so it's taking a while to finish them. Don't be surprised if you get a Halloween postcard closer to Mid-November. Oh Well, I like to think they're worth the wait.

THE DAY IN BOSTON

I spent the day yesterday setting up for an event in Boston at the Elie Tahari store in Copley Plaza. The event was promoting Peace Games and was sponsored by Vanity Fair but the true highlight of the trip for me was getting to the mall and finding these 2 beautiful found metal sculptures by Deborah Butterfield. I had discovered them the last time I was in Boston but didn't have my camera, so this time around I was armed with my new camera and planned on getting few shots. The 2 pieces here are amazing, (despite the crap visible in the background), but if you want to see even more incredible Deborah Butterfield horse sculptures you should do a google image search. She works in all kinds of materials including cast bronze of horses created from branches that are breathtaking.

VIEW FROM THE FIRE ESCAPE - MEXICAN FESTIVITIES

It's nice to know that despite the dramatic changes that have occured in my neighborhood over the past 10 years there are some traditions that seem to have survived the building of 2 large "Luxury" apartment buildings across the street and a number of my favorite places closing due to astronomical increases in leases. Each year that I've lived here, on this weekend in October, the sidewalk downstairs is transformed into a mini Mexican food festival, in turn reminding me of how the neighborhood used to have much more of a neighborly feel to it 10 years ago. Here's to tradition!!!

PIZZA PLACE

THIS WEEKS HALLOWEEN PREP

In addition to cutting out a number of fake pumpkins for a private halloween party I was on the roof of the 31st floor spray painting pumpkins that I had cut out last year, thus giving them a new lease on life. This year they're being reborn as shiny metallic forms.

CENTRAL PARK ROCKS!!!!!!!

It started out pretty chilly today but by noon it turned into a beautiful fall day so I figured I would take a walk to Central park. Almost all of the trees in the park are still completely green, which is a little odd this time of year, but there's enough fallen dried leaves to give the air that wonderful fall smell.

JOB BENEFITS

One of the benefits of being a freelance visual display person is that from time to time I get to travel as part of the job. And one of spots I get to go to from time to time is East Hampton. I know it's not for everyone, but there's something abt. being in a beach community that really speaks to my heart and soul. Despite working 13 hour days on these jobs, the real profit comes from being able to stay overnight at a beach house and waking up with a view of the ocean. It was definitely fall, grey and chilly, but as long as I can be close to the ocean, it's all good.

New BERUBE-BUG / Tami

Here's my latest bug addition to the group of misfit Berube-Bugs I've been working on. This one's name is "Tami" and she sounds like a cross between Rosie O'Donnell and Harvey Fierstein. When she introduces herself, she say's, "The names Tami, one M, one I".

MY ASSISTANT AND ME IN THE STUDIO

This is my assistant "T", in the studio helping me out with my "Portraits" mailart project. He was a little irritated at being interrupted while we were "creating", but thrilled at having his picture taken. I tried to crop out as much as possible of the pigmess that is my studio.

FLOATING TREES AND RICHARD SERRA ON WHEELS

On my way from one job to another today, I decided to walk up 6th avenue and when I reached 53rd I noticed traffic being held up by an enormous flatbed truck that just happened to be carrying a piece of Richard Serra's steel plate sculptures from MOMA. A pretty amazing site. If I had more time it would have been fun to see the cranes removing the rest of the pieces from the museum itself. I was running though, so this is what I got.

Beware of floating trees.

Cesar Millan - The Dog Whisperer

While I was working yesterday at 11 west 42nd street and hopping on to the elevator on the 19th floor, I heard a voice that sounded vaguely familiar. Two guys in a rather animated conversation were getting off of the elevator as I was getting on. As I turned back to see the people, I realised that it was in fact Cesar Millan, "The Dog Whisperer". He was going to the NPR studio on the 19th floor but before I could recover from the surprise of seeing him there and remember his first name, the elevator doors shut. It was truly a pleasant surprise and I only wish I would have reacted a little sooner as there wasn't a crowd of people around and I could have actually said "Hello" without feeling pressured. I guess he's in town for a few lectures and is doing a book signing here in the city later in the week.
