I decided rather last minute to spend the weekend in Connecticut with the family and discovered a new place to hike. I've probably driven by the place a few hundreds times buy never realized that it was in fact open to the public and had a variety of hiking trails as well as hunting and fishing. The weather was perfect, believe it or not there were still leaves on the trees here as well, and I actually came back a second time with my mom the following day. I didn't see a lot of animals, but the plant-life was beautiful. Enjoy the pics.
Oh yeah, I added a special surprise at the end of the pics. It's the first self-portrait I did in oils from the early 80's. Love the hair!!!

TOM THE TURKEY SAYS - THANKS FOR NOT EATING ME THIS YEAR
A few years ago a friend of mine in North Carolina had a turkey that she had raised from a baby who as he grew up became quite accustomed to following her around the yard and if you weren't careful into the house as well. He became much more than the turkey that he was.
She also had a number of large dogs who weren't to keen on Tom The Turkey moving in on their turf...... End of story.
So I created this piece in memory of Tom.

THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE - KINDA SORT OF
Every year the night before Thanksgiving, a number of the floats that will be appearing in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade pass by my apartment and head up 10th avenue on their way up the west side in preparation for tomorrows festivities. Unfortunately, my camera doesn't do so well in the dark from the vantage point of my fire escape, so the pics are pretty dark and grainy but it's become one of our Pre-Thanksgiving traditions to watch it and I thought I'd share it with you this year.

'TIS THE SEASON.... (for a case of the crazies)
It's been a weird fall so far. The time change has hit me really hard this year, and the slightly schizophrenic, fluctuating weather here in NYC keeps us all guessing on how many layers we're going to wear on any given day. Tomorrow, Thanksgiving, is supposed to be in the upper 60's, that's in the end of November kiddies!!!

HOLIDAY WINDOW INSTALLATION
I've had a pretty full freelance schedule for the past month or so, which is great for the wallet, but not so great for the psyche as I have a hard time getting started on any new art projects and feel a little ungrounded.
I should start receiving mailart postcards from my friend Barbara's high school art class in Alberta Canada which should get me back on track to the world of art making as I'll have to send out reply postcards to any of her kids who send me work. You can check out my mailart postings in one of my mailart blogs, just click on my image in the about me section and you'll have your choice of which blog you want to check out.
Just so that I feel like I've had some sort of posting in my blog, I've decided to post a few pics from the recent trip to one of my favorite job locations, East Hampton. We haven't had much of a foliage change to the trees here in NYC, but as you can see from one of the following pics, East Hampton made up for it.
Have A Great Thanksgiving, however you choose to spend it!!!!

OF ALL DAYS TO FORGET MY CAMERA
On the way out this afternoon for brunch, I turned to Frank as we were half way up the block and said, *#!% !!!, I forgeot to grab my camera before leaving the apartment. Not willing to go back and get it, we forged on with the outing cameraless. So as we reach the Viceroy on 8th ave. in Chelsea, Frank turns to me and says, "Look who's coming towards us." Figuring it was a friend of ours, I was checking out everyone on the sidewalk facing us and I couldn't make out any familiar faces. He was almost in front of me when I realised it was Tim Gunn from Project Runway. I said, "Hey Tim" and Frank shook his hand, we walked into the restaurant, Tim went on his way down 8th avenue through the heart of Chelsea, (go figure).
So now Frank and I are sitting at the very back of the restaurant, the table of 3 right next to us gets up and leaves, we receive our food. I'm facing the back of the restaurant, looking at a bunch of mirrors which provide a great view of what's going on in the rest of the place. I see a group of 5 coming towards the table next us, they have 2 children, I'm thinking, great, more noise. I casually look over to check them out and go back to eating my food. It didn't even phase me that the older guy with silver-grey hair wearing dark sunglasses and sitting at the end of their table facing me from the side is familiar looking. Frank turns to me and says, "Do you see who that is?" I look again and sure enough it's Harrison Ford. Crazy, right. Sitting there having brunch with a family in a restaurant in the heart of Chelsea.
FYI, don't ask him for an autograph when he's dining. Frank went up to him, said, "Hello", shook his hand and asked for his autograph. He replied, something to the affect that if he signed the one, he would have to do it for everyone else. Trust me, no-one else there really cared who he was.

FLOWERS, FLOWERS, FLOWERS
It was a pleasant surprise when at a freelance job this week I was asked to paint some simple flowers on the wall at the GAP International showroom. Little did they know, every scrap piece of paper on my desk has a doodle of flowers on it. I've been doing it for so long, I can't even remember when I started doodling them. I did the multiple blue flowers on the left and right, not the giant sunflower-like thing in the center, that was a vinyl.
